{"id":56991,"date":"2019-03-22T10:18:35","date_gmt":"2019-03-22T14:18:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=56991"},"modified":"2019-04-02T08:53:28","modified_gmt":"2019-04-02T12:53:28","slug":"new-certificate-in-labour-studies-offers-flexibility-for-students","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2019\/03\/new-certificate-in-labour-studies-offers-flexibility-for-students\/","title":{"rendered":"New Certificate in Labour Studies offers flexibility for students"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Starting this fall, Brock students can earn a Certificate in Labour Studies on campus or online, through full- or part-time study.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Department of Labour Studies is excited to offer this new way to equip diverse students with a foundational understanding of workplace issues, from workers\u2019 rights and labour relations, to the changing world of work.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThrough our significant social media following and interactions with labour unions, community groups and front-line workers, we have received many requests for online learning opportunities,\u201d explains department Chair Kendra Coulter. \u201cWe are thrilled to be able to deliver.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The online and part-time options available provide certificate students with the flexibility to take courses that reflect or expand on their interests and goals. Those working full-time, living around Ontario or across Canada, and who would otherwise not be able to complete a full degree, can deepen their knowledge and build new skills with a Certificate in Labour Studies.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Brock is committed to expanding the learning opportunities available to different learners, and the Labour Studies Department is seizing this opportunity to reach new students.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cOur department is widely recognized as innovative and dynamic. We have award-winning faculty members with distinct and complementary areas of expertise, and engaging courses, some of which are unique in the world,\u201d says Coulter.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThe certificate makes it possible for many different kinds of people to be able to gain from our strengths and develop their own abilities.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In addition to its many on-campus courses, the department will offer online options each semester. Courses will also be available during the spring and summer sessions to accommodate year-round learning.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students can begin a Certificate in Labour Studies during the fall, winter or spring terms. There is no fixed deadline, but prospective students are encouraged to apply at least two months prior to the start of a term.
