{"id":56545,"date":"2019-03-05T11:28:17","date_gmt":"2019-03-05T16:28:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=56545"},"modified":"2019-03-05T13:17:38","modified_gmt":"2019-03-05T18:17:38","slug":"new-partnership-connects-brock-students-with-global-internships","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2019\/03\/new-partnership-connects-brock-students-with-global-internships\/","title":{"rendered":"New partnership connects Brock students with global internships"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Brock students have a new link to the fast-paced world of finance on Wall Street, the fulfilling work of not-for-profits in Chile and the cutting-edge robotics industry in Hong Kong.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students looking to add more work experience to their resum\u00e9 now have access to opportunities in 12 of the world\u2019s most populous cities thanks to a newly announced partnership with the Intern Group.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The new agreement provides Brock students with access to thousands of internships <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in North America, Europe, Asia, Australia and Latin America.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Founded in 2011, the Intern Group helps students significantly improve their skills and employability through an international internship experience, with a goal of developing a new generation of innovative and culturally sensitive graduates ready to address the issues that affect the world today and tomorrow.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cInternational work experience is becoming a highly regarded skill set in <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">today\u2019s global economy,\u201d said Jesse Barraza, Manager, International Learning Programs. \u201cEmployers are looking for candidates familiar with a culturally diverse work environment.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students interested in applying start by reviewing the various opportunities on the<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theinterngroup.com\/program-fees\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">program website<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> under more than 25 career fields listed. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Program fees start at about $2,600 and vary based on the program destination, start date and duration, which ranges from six to 24 weeks.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Program fees for all destinations include:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Professional internship placement in the student\u2019s primary or secondary career field<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Accommodation (private bedroom in a shared apartment or residence hall)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Professional development workshop, training and tools<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Industry-leading workplace performance assessment (global HR firm DDI International)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cultural and social events specific to the destination<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Airport pick-up and drop-off<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Most programs include unlimited public transportation for at least the first month or longer<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">24-7 emergency assistance from local staff<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Welcome package including city maps and important program information<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">An active international community of interns<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Visa assistance (where required)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Brock students also have access to scholarship opportunities, with eligible OSAP students receiving about $667 (US$500) off any of the programs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To apply, students fill out Brock University\u2019s<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/international\/mobility\/summer\/internship-program-application-requirements\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">online application<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> where they are asked to provide two preferred destinations and career fields. Brock will then review and nominate successful applicants for the program.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Intern Group will then match students with host organizations based on their CV\/resum<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00e9<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, academic background, skills and experience, and career goals.<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The placement process timeline is different for each intern, but typically takes four to 12 weeks.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students interested in learning more about the opportunity are encouraged to attend an<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/experiencebu.brocku.ca\/event\/97456\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">information session<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> being held Thursday, March 7 from 2 to 3 p.m. in the International Centre (GLB 207).
