{"id":56480,"date":"2019-03-01T09:55:45","date_gmt":"2019-03-01T14:55:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=56480"},"modified":"2019-03-04T09:37:13","modified_gmt":"2019-03-04T14:37:13","slug":"brock-to-mark-open-education-week-with-events-webinars","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2019\/03\/brock-to-mark-open-education-week-with-events-webinars\/","title":{"rendered":"Brock to mark Open Education Week with events, webinars"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In recognition of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.openeducationweek.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Open Education Week<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, March 4 to 8, the Brock University community will have access to events and webinars exploring open educational resources (OER).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Celebrated annually across the globe, Open Education Week raises awareness and showcases the impact of open education on teaching and learning worldwide.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Among the week\u2019s <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">offerings is a free Brock event discussing OERs \u2014 teaching and learning materials released under an open licence that permits their use at no cost to students \u2014 on Thursday, March 7. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sponsored by eCampus Ontario and co-organized by the James A. Gibson Library and the Centre for Pedagogical Innovation, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/experiencebu.brocku.ca\/event\/97810\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Open Education: Focus on Open Education Resources<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> will explore the landscape of OERs as a way of enhancing teaching and learning practices to improve student learning. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Instructors and staff involved with instructional design are invited to attend from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Schmon Tower 103. A catered lunch will follow.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Keynote speakers include Jess Mitchell, Senior Manager, Research and Design at OCAD University&#8217;s Inclusive Design Research Centre and Lillian Hogendoorn, Digital Access and OER Lead for eCampusOntario. The event will also feature a panel of Brock professors who are developing OERs in their teaching. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Interested faculty and staff are asked to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/experiencebu.brocku.ca\/event\/97810\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">register at ExperienceBU<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> as space is limited.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A list of free webinars and other Open Education Week events available to all members of the Brock community can also be accessed <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/experiencebu.brocku.ca\/organization\/library\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">through ExperienceBU<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In addition to hosting Open Education Week events, Brock continues to move forward with OER development with the creation of the Senate Teaching and Learning Policy Committee&#8217;s OER Working Group.
