{"id":56176,"date":"2019-02-13T09:14:25","date_gmt":"2019-02-13T14:14:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=56176"},"modified":"2019-02-13T16:13:07","modified_gmt":"2019-02-13T21:13:07","slug":"goodman-researcher-to-highlight-impact-of-news-on-exchange-markets","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2019\/02\/goodman-researcher-to-highlight-impact-of-news-on-exchange-markets\/","title":{"rendered":"Goodman researcher to highlight impact of news on exchange markets"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When financial news breaks, it can cause major jumps in foreign exchange markets.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Brock researcher Walid Ben Omrane and his team looked at a 10-year period to see how macroeconomic news and public communications by senior officials in the United States and Europe impacted currency jumps.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ben Omrane, Associate Professor of Finance at the Goodman School of Business, will highlight this work at the<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/goodman\/faculty-research\/luncheon-speaker-series\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Goodman Luncheon Speaker Series<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> this week. He will present his co-authored paper \u201cMacroeconomic News, Public Communications, and Foreign Exchange Jumps around US and European Financial Crises\u201d on Friday, Feb. 15.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The presentation will run from 12:30 to 2 p.m. in Goodman School of Business Room 205.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ben Omrane is the recipient of the 2018<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/goodman\/faculty-research\/featured-research\/#1523041876937-f138622e-a455\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Goodman Department Researcher of the Year Award<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for the Finance, Operations and Information Systems, based on his recent research and contribution.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The speaker series provides an informal opportunity to listen to and discuss recent advances in research, teaching and practices with business colleagues.
