Rather than taking a break from the books and heading home for the summer, Brock students looking for alternative plans have the chance to explore the world.<\/span><\/p>\n

The University\u2019s International Mobility Office offers an array of opportunities for students interested in spending their break studying abroad.<\/span><\/p>\n

The summer exchange was a perfect fit for Cody Weber (BBA \u201918), who wanted to experience new cultures before crossing the stage at Brock\u2019s Convocation last October.<\/span><\/p>\n

Weber spent a final semester at the University of Mannheim in Germany, enrolling in Film Studies, and Intercultural Differences in an Increasingly Globalized World.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cYou learn how truly different life is on the other side of the world,\u201d said the recent grad. \u201cYou get to experience what people in different cultures eat, what they do in their spare time and their thoughts on the world.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The opportunity took Weber outside of his comfort zone, and allowed him to grow as a person.<\/span><\/p>\n

Brock\u2019s International Mobility Office lists more than 20 <\/span>short-term opportunities online<\/span><\/a>, with host institutions in Australia, England, South Korea and various countries across Europe.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cEach destination provides a unique educational experience for students, many of whom will earn academic credit that can be applied to their degree at Brock,\u201d said Jesse Barraza, Brock\u2019s Manager, International Learning Programs.<\/span><\/p>\n

Studying abroad also encourages intercultural and international understanding, fosters leadership and personal development, and provides students with a meaningful opportunity to interact with university staff and faculty outside the formal classroom, he said.<\/span><\/p>\n

Weber encouraged students considering an opportunity abroad to be spontaneous and not overthink the decision. A dedicated team at Brock\u2019s International Mobility Office will provide support with pre-departure sessions and tips to maximize the experience while overseas.<\/span><\/p>\n

While living in a foreign land presented challenges, the opportunity to experience new cultures, meet new people and even paraglide over the Swiss Alps all added up to a life-altering experience that Weber will never forget.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI learned that I am stronger than I realized,\u201d he said. \u201cThe world is full of beautiful places and learning experiences \u2014 if you take the chance to let it show you. Studying abroad gives you the chance to observe that truth.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Now a client associate with ROC Financial, Weber attributes part of his current success to his international experience he received through Brock.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt helped improve my communication skills with clients, my understanding of their various needs and backgrounds, and my resourcefulness.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Applications for short-term programs abroad must be submitted online<\/span><\/a> through Brock\u2019s International Mobility Office for consideration. Students should note the varying application deadlines for each opportunity, which fall between January and April.<\/span><\/p>\n
