Demons of the past are wrestled and morality questioned in <\/span>Destroyer<\/span><\/em>, the next film to be screened by the Brock University Film Society (BUFS).<\/span><\/p>\n

The crime drama, starring Nicole Kidman (<\/span>Lion<\/span>, <\/span>Big Little Lies<\/span><\/em>) and Tatiana Maslany (<\/span>Orphan Black<\/span><\/em>), and directed by Karyn Kusama (<\/span>The Invitation<\/span><\/em>), will be showcased Thursday, Jan. 31 at the Film House in downtown St. Catharines.<\/span><\/p>\n

Destroyer<\/span><\/i> follows the moral and existential odyssey of LAPD detective Erin Bell (Kidman) who, as a young cop, was placed undercover with a gang in the California desert with tragic results. When the leader of that gang re-emerges many years later, she must work her way back through the remaining members and into her own history with them to finally reckon with the demons that destroyed her past.<\/span><\/p>\n

The <\/span>Associated Press<\/span><\/em> calls <\/span>Destroyer<\/span><\/em> \u201can often gripping, well-crafted crime drama with distinction of its own in the genre, an almost always male-dominated one.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cKudos to Kidman for taking on an ugly role (both physically and morally) and for giving both versions of the character a convincing hardness,\u201d says\u00a0<\/span>The Globe and Mail<\/span><\/em>.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

Tickets for all BUFS shows are available at the Film House in the FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre (PAC) on the evening of screenings. General admission is $9.50 or $7 for members, plus tax. Memberships are available through the<\/span> Film House website<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n
