{"id":55656,"date":"2019-01-25T13:50:22","date_gmt":"2019-01-25T18:50:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=55656"},"modified":"2019-01-25T15:47:09","modified_gmt":"2019-01-25T20:47:09","slug":"employable-expo-prepares-international-students-for-career-success","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2019\/01\/employable-expo-prepares-international-students-for-career-success\/","title":{"rendered":"Employable Expo prepares international students for career success"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">No matter where in the world they come from, most students have one goal in mind when embarking on their educational journey: securing their dream job.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To help Brock international students with the transition from education to career, the second annual Employable Expedition (Employable Expo) will be held Wednesday, Jan. 30 from 1 to 3 p.m. in Market Hall.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hosted by Brock International Services, Career Education and the Brock University Alumni Association, the Employable Expo provides valuable networking opportunities and connections to campus resources aimed to help students successfully navigate the next steps of their career path.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The event will feature 15-minute roundtable sessions whereby students will meet with industry professionals, speak with successful alumni and have their resum\u00e9s reviewed by Career Education staff in CareerZone.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u201cThe Employable Expo gives students a unique opportunity to listen, talk and learn,\u201d says Pauline Dawson, Acting Associate Director, Career Education. \u201cThey will engage with professionals who are interested in sharing their experiences and providing advice on how to prepare for what\u2019s ahead.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Roundtables will be led by experts on topics such as navigating the international experience, building a personal brand, identifying job scams and obtaining work permits, and learning effective interview strategies.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Among the many professionals eager to share their experiences with students is Brock alumnus and Royal Bank of Canada Data Scientist Matthew Chang Kit (BSc \u201913).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThese types of events are important mostly for the networking,\u201d says Chang Kit. \u201cEven if you don\u2019t want to go work for a particular organization you can at least walk away with a new connection or potential future opportunity.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Originally from Trinidad, Chang Kit will share details about his experience navigating Brock as an international student and will provide insight into his journey from school to work.
