The beauty of dance violently collides with a twisted tale of murder in the reimagining of Italian horror classic <\/span>Suspiria<\/span><\/em>, the latest offering of the Brock University Film Society (BUFS).<\/span><\/p>\n

Described by lead actress Tilda Swinton as \u201chorr-epic,\u201d <\/span>Suspiria<\/span><\/em>, directed by Luca Guadagnino (<\/span>Call Me by Your Name<\/span><\/em>), will be screened at the Film House in downtown St. Catharines on Thursday, Jan. 24.<\/span><\/p>\n

A darkness swirls at the centre of a world-renowned dance company, one that will engulf the troupe’s artistic director (Swinton), an ambitious young dancer (Dakota Johnson) and a grieving psychotherapist (Lutz Ebersdorf). A recently expelled student who was guarding a terrifying dark secret is murdered and the young dancer suspects that the school might be involved.<\/span><\/p>\n

Guadagnino\u2019s version of the 1977 original is \u201ca gorgeous, hideous, uncompromising film,\u201d says <\/span>New York Magazine<\/span><\/em>. \u201cWhile it seeks to do many things, settling our minds about the brutality of the past and human nature is not one of them.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Tickets for all BUFS shows are available at the Film House in the FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre (PAC) on the evening of screenings. General admission is $9.50 or $7 for members, plus tax. Memberships are available through the<\/span> Film House website<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n
