{"id":55545,"date":"2019-01-21T10:28:38","date_gmt":"2019-01-21T15:28:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=55545"},"modified":"2019-01-21T10:38:38","modified_gmt":"2019-01-21T15:38:38","slug":"bufs-conjures-macabre-and-mystery-with-suspiria","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2019\/01\/bufs-conjures-macabre-and-mystery-with-suspiria\/","title":{"rendered":"BUFS conjures macabre and mystery with Suspiria"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The beauty of dance violently collides with a twisted tale of murder in the reimagining of Italian horror classic <\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Suspiria<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the latest offering of the Brock University Film Society (BUFS).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Described by lead actress Tilda Swinton as \u201chorr-epic,\u201d <\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Suspiria<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, directed by Luca Guadagnino (<\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Call Me by Your Name<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">), will be screened at the Film House in downtown St. Catharines on Thursday, Jan. 24.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A darkness swirls at the centre of a world-renowned dance company, one that will engulf the troupe&#8217;s artistic director (Swinton), an ambitious young dancer (Dakota Johnson) and a grieving psychotherapist (Lutz Ebersdorf). A recently expelled student who was guarding a terrifying dark secret is murdered and the young dancer suspects that the school might be involved.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Guadagnino\u2019s version of the 1977 original is \u201ca gorgeous, hideous, uncompromising film,\u201d says <\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">New York Magazine<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. \u201cWhile it seeks to do many things, settling our minds about the brutality of the past and human nature is not one of them.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tickets for all BUFS shows are available at the Film House in the FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre (PAC) on the evening of screenings. General admission is $9.50 or $7 for members, plus tax.
