Pujolas, Assistant Professor of Economics from McMaster University.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">An upcoming talk on campus looks at lessons learned from historical cross-border trade data.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On Monday, Oct. 29, Brock\u2019s Department of Economics welcomes Pau S. Pujolas, Assistant Professor of Economics from McMaster University, to present \u201cStructural Transformation and Trade: Spain-UK 1850-2000.\u201d The talk will take place in TH240 from noon to 1:30 p.m.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pujolas\u2019 paper uses<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">historical and contemporary data from Spain to demonstrate patterns and build a dynamic model of trade and structural transformation. Using the model, Pujolas and his co-authors measure the cost of a spike in trade costs between Spain and the U.K. in the early 21st century and find that a trade collapse today would be even costlier.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The talk is part of the department&#8217;s<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/social-sciences\/economics\/visiting-speakers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u00a0<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Research Seminar Series<\/span><\/a>, which<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0continues throughout the 2018-19 academic year. The series offers an opportunity to learn from renowned researchers from Canada and around the world.
