When Brock President Gervan Fearon addressed the University\u2019s top business students last week, he stressed the importance of bringing strong personal values to the table.<\/span><\/p>\n

Fearon shared insight into leadership while speaking with the group of Beta Gamma Sigma inductees, while also receiving an honorary membership to the University\u2019s chapter of the international honours organization.<\/span><\/p>\n

Thirty-six undergraduate students and five graduate students were inducted as Beta Gamma Sigma members during a ceremony at Brock Oct. 17.<\/p><\/div>\n

Beta Gamma Sigma recognizes the top 10 per cent of the undergraduate class and the top 20 per cent of the graduate class at institutions accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB).<\/span><\/p>\n

Held within Brock\u2019s<\/span> Goodman School of Business<\/span><\/a>, the society welcomed 36 new undergraduate students and five new graduate students during a ceremony Oct. 17.<\/span><\/p>\n

Beta Gamma Sigma\u2019s mission is to encourage and honour academic achievement in the study of business, to cultivate and celebrate leadership and professional excellence, to advance the values of society and to serve its lifelong members.<\/span><\/p>\n

During his address, Fearon emphasized the impact students can have through their business careers.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201c<\/span>Leadership and values of organizations really matter in terms of their overall performance,\u201d Fearon said. \u201cRemember that you\u2019ll be going out and making incredible decisions in business and the values you carry into those decisions will make a significant difference to humanity and the world.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Associate Professor of Accounting Sohyung Kim was also inducted during the ceremony for exemplifying the organization\u2019s characteristics and values.<\/span><\/p>\n

Brock is one of only nine Canadian universities to have a Beta Gamma Sigma chapter. Earlier this spring, Goodman received an honourable mention from the organization as an outstanding chapter of the business honour society.<\/span><\/p>\n

Induction into Beta Gamma Sigma also opens up leadership opportunities for its members. Next month, Goodman is sending four students to the society\u2019s<\/span> Global Leadership Summit<\/span><\/a> in Chicago from Nov. 1 to 4.<\/span><\/p>\n

For third-year BBA International Dual Degree student Julia Baird-Oryschak, being inducted into the organization is a recognition of the effort she and other students put in in order to obtain top grades.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI was really interested in attending the leadership summit,\u201d she said. \u201cIt focuses on individual leadership and gives me the opportunity to engage more in the Beta Gamma Sigma community.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Baird-Oryschak will being joining third-year BBA student Patrick Nunes and MBA students Jinghan Lai and Chayada Arsapisit in Chicago.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
