{"id":53651,"date":"2018-10-08T15:35:58","date_gmt":"2018-10-08T19:35:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=53651"},"modified":"2018-10-08T15:37:33","modified_gmt":"2018-10-08T19:37:33","slug":"brock-prof-wins-provincial-teaching-award","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2018\/10\/brock-prof-wins-provincial-teaching-award\/","title":{"rendered":"Brock prof wins provincial teaching award"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After being nationally recognized for his teaching excellence earlier this year, David Hutchison is again being honoured for his efforts in the classroom.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A professor in Brock\u2019s Department of Educational Studies and Director of the Centre for Digital Humanities, Hutchison has been awarded a 2017-18 Teaching Award by the Ontario Confederation of University Faculty Associations (OCUFA). OCUFA represents 17,000 faculty and academic librarians in 29 Ontario faculty associations. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Since 1973, the OCUFA Teaching and Academic Librarianship Awards have recognized exceptional professors and librarians for their contributions to higher education in Ontario. Hutchison is one of five Teaching Award recipients from across Ontario this year. \u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cAs a cross-appointed professor at Brock, it has been my privilege to observe so many diverse examples of teaching excellence amongst colleagues, working with students in groups \u2014 large and small \u2014 in-person and online,\u201d Hutchison said. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI really see this recognition as a tribute to how well Brock nurtures and values teaching excellence, especially teaching approaches which support experiential cross-program collaborations, which has been one of my goals.&#8221; <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hutchison\u2019s teaching efforts were widely recognized earlier this year. In February, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2018\/02\/hutchison-named-3m-national-teaching-fellow\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">he was awarded a 3M National Teaching Fellowship<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, one of Canada\u2019s most prestigious awards for teaching excellence. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cDavid is an innovative instructor and through his teaching and mentoring of students\u202fcontributes significantly to our students&#8217;\u202fpositive\u202fexperiences and, more broadly, to Brock and the community,\u201d said Michael Owen, Dean of the Faculty of Education. \u201cAs his colleagues, we celebrate this well-deserved recognition of his dedication and talent.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hutchison and his fellow award recipients will be honoured at OCUFA\u2019s 45th annual awards ceremony in Toronto on Saturday, Oct. 20.
