When the advance poll for the upcoming municipal election opened at Brock\u2019s main campus on Wednesday, senior administration came ready to cast their ballot.<\/p>\n
University President Gervan Fearon and interim Provost and Vice-President, Academic Greg Finn, joined by Brock University Students\u2019 Union President Aidan Hibma, exercised their democratic right in hopes of encouraging other members of the Brock community to do the same.<\/p>\n
Brock held an advance poll on campus for the first time in its history on Wednesday, Oct. 3, allowing St. Catharines and Thorold residents to have an early say in the Oct. 22 election.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe introduced the advance poll to make voting more accessible, not only for the Brock community but also for members of the general community who live or work nearby,\u201d Fearon said. \u201cWith thousands of faculty, staff, students and community members on campus each day, it seemed a natural fit for Brock to be an advance poll site and to encourage residents to have a say in Niagara\u2019s future. \u201cAt Brock we encourage our students, faculty and staff to be engaged citizens and community members. The advanced poll on campus reflects Brock\u2019s commitment to outstanding citizenship and community engagement.\u201d<\/p>\n
The poll remained open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and community members visiting Market Hall to vote were provided free parking.<\/p>\n
