{"id":53485,"date":"2018-09-28T15:02:28","date_gmt":"2018-09-28T19:02:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=53485"},"modified":"2018-09-28T15:03:06","modified_gmt":"2018-09-28T19:03:06","slug":"goodman-school-to-honour-business-leader-julia-deans","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2018\/09\/goodman-school-to-honour-business-leader-julia-deans\/","title":{"rendered":"Goodman School to honour business leader Julia Deans"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Prominent lawyer and business leader Julia Deans has been selected as the Goodman School of Business 2018 Distinguished Leader.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Deans will share her passion for entrepreneurship and children\u2019s literacy when she addresses the Brock community at the University on Wednesday, Oct. 3.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Each year, the<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/goodman\/distinguished-leader\/registration\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Goodman School of Business<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> honours prominent Canadian business leaders and connects the recipients with Goodman students and the Brock community.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Deans\u2019 career has been dedicated to tackling social and economic challenges. She is CEO of the Canadian Children\u2019s Literacy Foundation, a non-profit organization that aims to ensure all Canadian children are skilled and confident readers by the end of grade school. With a passion for entrepreneurial start-ups, Deans has served as CEO of Futurpreneur Canada and was the founding CEO of Civic Action, where she built the influential organization from an initial project.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u201cI\u2019m very proud to have Julia Deans being recognized as a distinguished leader,\u201d says Goodman Dean Andrew Gaudes. \u201cHer presence and influence with youth entrepreneurship has transformed Canada\u2019s next generation of innovators and business leaders through her work with Futurpreneur.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cNow, her role as CEO of the Canadian Children\u2019s Literacy Foundation gives all of us great optimism that our youth will be even more prepared for personal fulfilment, leading to a better place for us to live.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Deans, who has twice been named one of Canada\u2019s Top 100 Powerful Women, says she\u2019s deeply honoured to be recognized for her own leadership contributions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI\u2019m looking forward to speaking with students about the changing world of work and to sharing some of the timeless lessons I have learned about leadership and reinvention,\u201d Deans says.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Deans will spend the day on campus speaking with small groups of Goodman students.
