{"id":53431,"date":"2018-09-26T13:56:36","date_gmt":"2018-09-26T17:56:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=53431"},"modified":"2018-09-26T13:56:36","modified_gmt":"2018-09-26T17:56:36","slug":"brocks-ccovi-helps-to-educate-your-senses","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2018\/09\/brocks-ccovi-helps-to-educate-your-senses\/","title":{"rendered":"Brock\u2019s CCOVI helps to Educate Your Senses"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Visitors to the Niagara Grape and Wine Festival have a chance to indulge in the stories behind the wine being served this weekend.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Continuing the long-standing tradition, Brock University\u2019s Cool Climate Oenology and Viticulture Institute (CCOVI) is hosting its popular Educate Your Senses wine and cheese seminars for the second consecutive weekend in Montebello Park.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Three seminars will be offered the afternoon of Saturday, Sept. 29 at the downtown St. Catharines festival.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cOur more than two decades of bringing quality educational opportunities to the local community through offerings like the Educate Your Senses seminar series demonstrates the institute\u2019s commitment both to the community and the grape and wine industry,\u201d said Barb Tatarnic, CCOVI\u2019s Manager of Continuing Education and Outreach.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cOver the span of 20 years, we\u2019ve poured more than 10,000 glasses of VQA wine to festival-goers and celebrated 170 winemakers from this region,\u201d Tatarnic said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Each seminar features discussions with local winemakers, who pour two wines for the audience to sample alongside cheese pairings provided by Real Canadian Superstore. Last week\u2019s sessions featured Stoney Ridge Cellars winemaker Jeff Innes, followed by David Stasiuk, winemaker at Rockway Vineyard, and Mike Pillitteri, Riverview Cellars.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">All seminars are hosted by Christopher Waters, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">VINES Magazine<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> editor and CCOVI continuing education instructor. Waters introduces attendees to some of Niagara\u2019s top winemakers, including alumni of Brock\u2019s Oenology and Viticulture program, as they share the experiences and stories behind their wines.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cIt\u2019s always fun to connect wine lovers and winemakers in Montebello Park,\u201d said Waters. \u201cIt\u2019s not only a great opportunity to learn more about the styles of wine made in Niagara vineyards, it\u2019s the chance to hear insider information from the people directly responsible for the wine you\u2019re enjoying.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Educate your Senses, Saturday, Sept. 29:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2 p.m. Chris Holman (BSc \u201915), Jackson-Triggs Winery<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">3 p.m. Eric Pearson (BSc \u201904), Konzelmann Est. Winery<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">4 p.m. Dave Sheppard, Flat Rock Cellars<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Location<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>:<\/strong> Roy T. Adams Bandshell, Montebello Park, St. Catharines<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Cost:<\/strong> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Two tokens ($3.50 per token). Brock alumni will receive a free wine glass with registration and receive half off the seminar cost. Tokens are available for purchase at Montebello Park throughout the weekend. Registration for seminars will be at the Roy T. Adams Bandshell only.
