{"id":53393,"date":"2018-09-24T12:22:21","date_gmt":"2018-09-24T16:22:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=53393"},"modified":"2018-09-24T16:27:22","modified_gmt":"2018-09-24T20:27:22","slug":"brock-night-at-grape-and-wine-creates-perfect-blend","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2018\/09\/brock-night-at-grape-and-wine-creates-perfect-blend\/","title":{"rendered":"Brock Night at Grape and Wine creates perfect blend"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Badger pride emanated from the heart of Montebello Park on Saturday during Brock Night at the Niagara Grape and Wine Festival.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The sold-out VIP experience marked the end of a successful lineup of Homecoming events, bringing alumni from a variety of classes together to reconnect, network and enjoy local eats and Niagara\u2019s wine culture in the comfort of the festival\u2019s Harvest Lounge.<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_53395\" style=\"width: 398px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-53395\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-53395\" src=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Grape-and-Wine-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"388\" height=\"248\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-53395\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Brock graduates Scarlet Stark (BA &#8217;17), Tyler Harris (BA \u201917) and Laura Jacobs (BSM \u201917) enjoy the Harvest Lounge during Brock Night at the Niagara Grape and Wine Festival.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Around 300 tickets were sold for the second annual Brock Night, increasing sales by about 40 per cent over the inaugural year, <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">said Christine Richard, Alumni Relations Officer, Alumni and Student Engagement.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cOver the years we\u2019ve built a lot of momentum for Homecoming weekend overall,\u201d she said. \u201cIt has become one of the hot ticket events for Brock alumni. We strive to provide our alumni and their guests with memorable experiences at a great value, and Brock Night at the Niagara Grape and Wine Festival is one way we can do that while fostering existing community partnerships.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With most wineries in the Niagara region having Brock alumni winemakers, or a Brock alumni connection in some form, the idea to host a Homecoming event for alumni at the festival was a natural fit for the University, said Shelley Huxley, Brock&#8217;s Director of Alumni Relations.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWe had a prominent CCOVI program and a wonderful festival already taking place, and a number of alumni that were already attending the festival. It\u2019s a great way to highlight Brock\u2019s presence in the community,\u201d she said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The University\u2019s Cool Climate Oenology and Viticulture Institute (CCOVI) has had a longstanding relationship with the Niagara Grape and Wine Festival, offering interactive and educational seminars as part of its outreach initiatives dating back to 1997.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u201cThe Brock Night event is a great collaboration on Canada\u2019s oldest and largest wine festival that takes place right here in St. Catharines,\u201d Huxley added. \u201cMany of our alumni went to Grape and Wine when they attended Brock University and have fond memories of the festival. It\u2019s those memories that draw them back to the event as alumni and we\u2019re happy to add value to that experience.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Among the hundreds of alumni in attendance was Tyler Harris (BA \u201917), a graduate from the University\u2019s Psychology program celebrating his one year anniversary as a Brock alumnus.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI came back for Homecoming because there was tremendous potential to relive the moments that I created during my undergraduate career, and to celebrate the people and memories I completed my Brock journey with,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThe culture and atmosphere here is really captivating. It\u2019s a great opportunity to network with recent and experienced alumni and reconnect with past colleagues and friends.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Harris described Homecoming as an experience that both accentuated his Brock experience and marked the beginning of a new chapter in his life.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cBrock was instrumental in my growth and development as an individual and professional, and I think it always will be.
