{"id":52995,"date":"2018-09-07T14:38:32","date_gmt":"2018-09-07T18:38:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=52995"},"modified":"2018-09-07T16:15:11","modified_gmt":"2018-09-07T20:15:11","slug":"brock-program-ready-to-help-develop-ideas-of-young-niagara-entrepreneurs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2018\/09\/brock-program-ready-to-help-develop-ideas-of-young-niagara-entrepreneurs\/","title":{"rendered":"Brock program ready to help develop ideas of young Niagara entrepreneurs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Bailey Cochrane had the business idea, but it was a boost from BioLinc that helped take it from concept to reality.<\/p>\n<p>The fourth-year Bachelor of Business Administration student in Brock University\u2019s Goodman School of Business knew he wanted to design an online resource for people who were interested in Ontario wine.<\/p>\n<p>Through his participation in BioLinc\u2019s <u><a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/biolinc\/young-entrepreneurs\/kick-starting-entrepreneurship-program\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Kick-Starting Entrepreneurship Program<\/a><\/u>, he was able to transform the vision for <u><a href=\"https:\/\/www.stockedcellars.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Stocked Cellars<\/a><\/u> into an operating online business. Although this wasn\u2019t Cochrane\u2019s first time starting a company, the program gave him resources that built on his previous knowledge and helped him step outside his comfort zone.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt allowed me to conceptualize exactly how I wanted to go about starting a technology company,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_52998\" style=\"width: 451px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/1Price-Cassie04.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-52998\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-52998\" src=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/1Price-Cassie04.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"441\" height=\"382\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-52998\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Kick-Starting Entrepreneurship Program BioLinc Co-ordinator Cassie Price.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Stocked Cellars was designed as a technology resource that aims to understand Ontario wine consumers, provides customers resources to help them make purchase decisions and acts as an alternative to traditional wine retail.<\/p>\n<p>Cochrane envisions next adding a virtual reality experience to the website where consumers can be transported to Niagara wine country from their computer screen.<\/p>\n<p>The Kick-Starting Entrepreneurship Program is in its fifth year after helping more than 150 young entrepreneurs in the past. Niagara residents between the ages of 18 and 29 with an early-stage business idea are <u><a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/biolinc\/young-entrepreneurs\/kick-starting-entrepreneurship-program\/application\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">encouraged to submit an application<\/a><\/u> by the Friday, Sept. 21 deadline.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe program helps young entrepreneurs determine if this is a viable career path for them,\u201d said Program Manager and BioLinc Co-ordinator Cassie Price. \u201cIf they find out entrepreneurship isn\u2019t for them, we can teach them other ways they can be innovative in their career path.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Up to 35 young entrepreneurs will have access to monthly seminars and training, mentorship, networking events, advisory services and funding opportunities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey don\u2019t have to have more than an idea.
