{"id":52842,"date":"2018-08-30T11:27:46","date_gmt":"2018-08-30T15:27:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=52842"},"modified":"2018-08-30T16:19:23","modified_gmt":"2018-08-30T20:19:23","slug":"community-invited-to-retention-symposium","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2018\/08\/community-invited-to-retention-symposium\/","title":{"rendered":"Community invited to Retention Symposium"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On the sports field, in the classroom and in numerous other areas, Brock University is continuing to prioritize student retention.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Members of the Brock community are invited to join the University\u2019s Deans and senior administration at an upcoming Retention Symposium to discuss these efforts.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Held Wednesday, Sept. 19, the event will showcase 16 of Brock\u2019s 23 BrockU 4U retention grants, which included academic retention initiatives to promote experiential learning and learning skills tutorials for first-year students; graduation support for non-traditional and transfer students; and increased retention through intramural sport participation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After initial comments on the project\u2019s impact from Brock President and Vice-Chancellor Gervan Fearon, the University\u2019s Vice-Provost, Enrolment Management and International, Jamie Mandigo, will provide a further overview of the grants before turning the proceedings over to the presenters.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recipients applied for the grants in June 2017 and implemented them throughout the following 12 months.
