{"id":52771,"date":"2018-08-24T14:26:36","date_gmt":"2018-08-24T18:26:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=52771"},"modified":"2018-08-24T15:43:41","modified_gmt":"2018-08-24T19:43:41","slug":"record-numbers-reflective-of-employee-efforts-president-fearon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2018\/08\/record-numbers-reflective-of-employee-efforts-president-fearon\/","title":{"rendered":"Record numbers reflective of employee efforts: President Fearon"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There were plenty of reasons to celebrate at Brock\u2019s Opening of Term barbecue held Thursday in Jubilee Court.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">President Gervan Fearon welcomed the record-setting crowd of 500 people to the event, and announced the University is poised to soon meet some milestones of its own.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Brock\u2019s growth rate for the coming school year is on track to be above the predicted provincial average.<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_52776\" style=\"width: 463px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-52776\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-52776\" src=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Opening-of-Term-barbecue-2-RS.jpg\" alt=\"Opening of Term barbecue\" width=\"453\" height=\"302\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-52776\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A record crowd attended the 2018 Opening of Term celebration in Jubilee Court Thursday, Aug. 23.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>In just a couple of weeks, the University expects to welcome 5,000 new students. If that forecast plays out, it would likely push Brock\u2019s\u00a0total enrolment for 2018-19 to more than 19,000 full- and part-time students.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cBoth of these important metrics are record achievements for Brock,\u201d said Fearon. \u201cThey reflect the community\u2019s dedication to serving students, enhancing our reputation and growing its attractiveness to individuals from across Canada and the globe.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fearon is confident that faculty and staff will do an amazing job of welcoming students and their families to campus.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cSo many individuals have been so kind to me this year,\u201d he said. \u201cI recognize that I\u2019m not the only recipient of this kindness \u2014 the community extends it to each other and to our students. This is what makes the University so special.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Another milestone Fearon addressed was Brock\u2019s <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2018\/06\/gallery-brock-closes-spring-convocation-with-celebration-of-100000th-graduate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">100,000th graduate<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, who crossed the Convocation stage in June.
