{"id":52699,"date":"2018-08-17T14:54:27","date_gmt":"2018-08-17T18:54:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=52699"},"modified":"2018-08-17T14:54:27","modified_gmt":"2018-08-17T18:54:27","slug":"brock-welcomes-mexican-learners-through-government-program","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2018\/08\/brock-welcomes-mexican-learners-through-government-program\/","title":{"rendered":"Brock welcomes Mexican learners through government program"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Through a transformative program launched by the Mexican government, Brock University is welcoming dozens of students from south of the border for language classes this year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Brock is one of several Canadian post-secondary institutions participating in the <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/bccie.bc.ca\/proyecta-2018\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Proyecta 10,000<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> initiative, which aims to see 10,000 Mexican learners studying in Canada in 2018. The program is the result of conversations between the Canadian and Mexican governments that affirmed education as a strategic partnership priority.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Through the initiative, undergraduate students and teachers residing in Mexico have the opportunity to apply for a scholarship in English as a Second Language (ESL) programming to further their academic and professional aspirations.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The program\u2019s scholarships, paid for by the Mexican government, include tuition costs, educational fees, housing, a comprehensive meal program, medical insurance, transportation and other student costs, such as books and course materials.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Twenty Proyecta students arrived to Brock at the end of July for a four-week ESL program.
