When the Dirty Badger returns to Brock University’s trails later this month, its focus will be on fun.<\/p>\n
Now in its fifth year, the trail run for people of all experience levels takes place Saturday, Aug. 25 and will include the popular entry-level five-kilometre route as well as a more challenging 10-kilometre route.<\/p>\n
Check-in begins at 9:30 a.m. at Isaac\u2019s patio, followed by a 10:30 a.m. race start time. After the race, runners will be treated to live music, bar service and a free barbecue at Isaac\u2019s.<\/p>\n
The top female and male in each route will be presented an award, with prizes from the North Face performance apparel store at the Niagara Outlet Collection. The team with the most spirit will receive $50 to use towards their Isaac\u2019s tab after the race.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Dirty Badger team spirit competition is based on enthusiasm,\u201d said Eric Walter, race founder and Fitness Manager for Brock Sports. \u201cPast winners have cheered the loudest or worn colourful costumes. It\u2019s about having fun \u2014\u00a0not being the fastest runner out there.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Dirty Badger was created to encourage people to get active in the slower summer months on campus and to generate interest in trail running.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe race offers a great opportunity to show off the beautiful trails we have around campus in a safe and organized way,\u201d said Walter. \u201cWe\u2019re lucky to be next to the Niagara Escarpment and the Bruce Trail.\u201d<\/p>\n
Those interested in joining the fun but not up to tackling the trails can volunteer. Tasks include registration, timing runners and attending water stations by squirting runners with water guns to help keep them cool along the way.<\/p>\n
