{"id":52243,"date":"2018-07-12T11:34:25","date_gmt":"2018-07-12T15:34:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=52243"},"modified":"2019-01-25T14:10:01","modified_gmt":"2019-01-25T19:10:01","slug":"spma-alumnus-scores-director-role-with-carolina-hurricanes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2018\/07\/spma-alumnus-scores-director-role-with-carolina-hurricanes\/","title":{"rendered":"SPMA alumnus scores director role with Carolina Hurricanes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s through experience and commitment to the National Hockey League&#8217;s Carolina Hurricanes that Brock alumnus Darren Yorke (BSM \u201908) has earned his promotion to Director of Player Personnel for the franchise, effective July 10.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In his ninth season with the Hurricanes, and now his first as Director of Player Personnel, Yorke will be involved in all player personnel decisions, oversee amateur scouting and report directly to the general manager. Also announced the same day was\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Eric Tulsky\u2019s promotion to Vice-President of Hockey Management and Strategy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;Darren and Eric have earned these promotions through hard work and dedication to the Hurricanes,&#8221;\u00a0said Don Waddell, President and General Manager of the Hurricanes. &#8220;<\/span>Their knowledge and expertise in their respective areas are assets to this organization.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A native of Milton, Ont., Yorke first joined the organization as a video scout one year after graduating with honours from Brock\u2019s highly regarded Sport Management program. Brock is currently the only university in Canada granting a specialized Bachelor of Sport Management (BSM) degree, where a comprehensive curriculum expands students\u2019 understanding of the multi-faceted sport industry and ensures they have the opportunity to apply what they learn in the classroom in practical ways.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>There are countless success stories among SPMA&#8217;s more than 1,000 alumni, including several grads in high-profile roles.
