Brock University recognizes the important role it plays in nurturing and fostering engaged citizens, who make a meaningful contribution within and beyond their immediate community. The Brock University Alumni Association Award recognizes Brock students who contribute to a vibrant on-campus life and constitute an invaluable resource in the broader community, locally and nationally.<\/p>\n

This year, the Brock University Alumni Association is recognizing two students\u00a0 \u2014 Carly Barron and Marco Brunetti \u2014 with awards at its Annual General Meeting and lunch on Saturday, Sept. 18 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.<\/p>\n

\"Carly<\/a>Carly Barron<\/strong><\/p>\n

On Sept. 18, Carly Barron will receive the Silver Badger Award. Established in memory of Barrie-Ann Bergsma, a member of Brock\u2019s first graduating class, by her family, this award is presented to a student who has maintained high academic standing while making a significant, ongoing contribution to the extracurricular life of the University.<\/p>\n

During her time at Brock, Barron has found time to volunteer on the Community Health Sciences Student Council as an events co-ordinator, organizing events and promoting the Community Health Sciences student experience. Barron has also volunteered her time to support the Brock chapter of War Child Canada. She is also a student volunteer with the Brock University Heart Institute and involved in the Brock University Physical Health and Activity Study as a research assistant. Barron\u2019s ability to support and contribute to extracurricular activities at Brock, while maintaining a high academic standing, is an amazing achievement. Barron begins her MSc in Applied Health Sciences at Brock this September.<\/p>\n

\"Marco<\/a>Marco Brunetti<\/strong><\/p>\n

This year\u2019s recipient of the Badger Award is Marco Brunetti (pictured left in photo). Established in memory of Victoria Catherine Hull, this award honours graduating students who have demonstrated outstanding leadership qualities in their involvement in the extracurricular life of the university while maintaining an above-average academic standing.<\/p>\n

During his studies at Brock, Brunetti has maintained an above-average academic standing while contributing to the extracurricular life of the university. Brunetti promotes the Faculty of Business and his positive student experience. As one of two Brock Investment and Finance Group (BFIG) co-presidents, he has organized several events to increase student involvement in Faculty of Business activities, including a trip to Wall Street. Brunetti has been involved with BFIG for the past five years. Before becoming co-president, Brunetti acted as operations coordinator, vice-president and chairman.\u00a0 He started a Charity Investment Challenge to raise funds for the community and to teach students about the stock market. He also coordinated the Financial Open at McGill University in February 2010 where his team finished third in the stock simulation. Brunetti comments \u201cI could not have accomplished all that I did without the help of the other co-president and the outstanding executive team that I was fortunate to have\u201d. Brunetti\u2019s ability to manage and contribute to extracurricular activities at Brock while maintaining a high academic standing is an outstanding accomplishment.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
