Although preparing for the new school year may not be top of mind for most students with spring’s recent arrival, now’s the time to start thinking about signing up for Brock’s three summer orientation programs.<\/p>\n
Registration is now open for Smart Start, LEAP and BaseCamp \u2014 and early bird discounts are available.<\/p>\n
Smart Start allows new Brock students to spend a summer day on campus taking part in an academic orientation program that aims to help them acclimatize to their new surroundings and alleviate some of the stress that can come with starting post-secondary studies.<\/p>\n
LEAP adds on to Smart Start by engaging students in a small-group experience during an additional day of skill-building exercises and service projects in the community, as well as an optional overnight stay in residence.<\/p>\n
BaseCamp completes the trio and invites new and returning Brock students to explore the outdoors while camping together in several provincial parks and campgrounds throughout Ontario and learning more about the University.<\/p>\n
For Sheena Erhardt, Brock\u2019s Student Transitions Co-ordinator, the programs represent a seamless way for students to feel more involved.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo many students credit the programs with making them feel more comfortable and confident as they start their time here,\u201d she said. \u201cWe are so excited to get to know our new students this summer, and we are really hoping more upper-year students will consider taking part in the BaseCamp trips as well to provide additional perspectives and further enhance their own experiences.\u201d<\/p>\n
Erhardt also highlighted the discounts available for those who commit to any of the programs early as well as for those who decide to participate in more than one program.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe want students to experience our full range of programs, and we are offering some pretty great incentives to make it even easier for them to get involved,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
