{"id":50305,"date":"2018-04-04T14:59:09","date_gmt":"2018-04-04T18:59:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=50305"},"modified":"2018-04-04T14:59:09","modified_gmt":"2018-04-04T18:59:09","slug":"helping-hands-needed-for-national-volunteer-week","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2018\/04\/helping-hands-needed-for-national-volunteer-week\/","title":{"rendered":"Helping hands needed for National Volunteer Week"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Brock faculty and staff are invited to take a morning or afternoon off of work to lend a helping hand in the local community.<\/p>\n<p>For the fourth consecutive year, Brock University is participating in National Volunteer Week by encouraging employees to use work time to volunteer with one of several community partners \u2014\u00a0no vacation time required.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s such a great initiative that benefits both the community and our employees,\u201d said Holly Bolvari, Training and Organizational Development Specialist with Human Resources. \u201cWorking in a different environment with new people is an opportunity for faculty and staff to expand their knowledge.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Volunteer placements are available April 18 and 19, from either 9 a.m. to noon or from 1 to 4 p.m., with a mixture of indoor and outdoor activities for people of all abilities.<\/p>\n<p>Employees are asked to <a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/hr\/training\/focus\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">register on Focus on Learning<\/a> by Tuesday, April 10 to indicate their preferred time slot. Supervisor approval is required.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/hr\/training\/focus\/courses.php?cid=2021\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wednesday, April 18 from 9 a.m. to noon<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/hr\/training\/focus\/courses.php?cid=2022\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wednesday, April 18 from 1 to 4 p.m.<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/hr\/training\/focus\/courses.php?cid=2023\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Thursday, April 19 from 9 a.m. to noon<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/hr\/training\/focus\/courses.php?cid=2024\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Thursday, April 19 from 1 to 4 p.m.<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Participants will be contacted Friday, April 13 to select their preference for placement with one of several community partners in need of volunteers.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2017\/04\/brock-employees-roll-up-their-sleeves-for-volunteer-week\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Last year more than 50 employees volunteered<\/a> at the YMCA and Bethlehem Housing and Support Services.
