{"id":49942,"date":"2018-03-16T16:21:07","date_gmt":"2018-03-16T20:21:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=49942"},"modified":"2018-03-16T16:34:11","modified_gmt":"2018-03-16T20:34:11","slug":"youth-employment-research-brief-to-launch-tuesday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2018\/03\/youth-employment-research-brief-to-launch-tuesday\/","title":{"rendered":"Youth employment research brief to launch Tuesday"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A joint research brief on youth employment in Niagara will be launched by Brock University\u2019s Niagara Community Observatory (NCO) and the Niagara Workforce Planning Board (NWPB) on Tuesday, March 20.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The brief, \u201cYouth in Niagara: Highly Skilled, Highly Mobile,\u201d<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">examines education and employment data from the 2016 census, as well as local job demand data, to build a snapshot of the work Niagara\u2019s youth are doing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This project also explores the educational background of Niagara\u2019s youth, as well as the employment opportunities available to young job seekers. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cIf Niagara is going to be a region that remains globally competitive, and one that can energize growth in small-to-medium enterprise, then it is vital for us to engage in research topics that help us map and leverage our talent opportunities,\u201d NCO Director Charles Conteh says of the combined research team\u2019s brief.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThis project demonstrates what happens when local research organizations collaborate on topics that serve the local needs while laying the groundwork for approaching systemic workforce challenges,\u201d says NWPB CEO Mario De Divitiis.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The launch takes place at Brock University\u2019s Pond Inlet on March 20 from 10 a.m. to noon.
