{"id":49847,"date":"2018-03-13T08:50:58","date_gmt":"2018-03-13T12:50:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=49847"},"modified":"2018-07-16T15:36:59","modified_gmt":"2018-07-16T19:36:59","slug":"equity-talk-to-focus-on-racism-and-resistance-in-higher-education","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2018\/03\/equity-talk-to-focus-on-racism-and-resistance-in-higher-education\/","title":{"rendered":"Equity talk to focus on racism and resistance in higher education"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Brock\u2019s Equity in Post-Secondary Speakers Series continues this week with <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/events\/400567730397286\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tales of a Transnational Woman of Colour: Race, Racism and Resistance in Higher Education<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Held Friday, March 16, the lecture will be delivered by Anushay Irfan Khan, an educator and activist who is currently the international and intercultural student development co-ordinator at the University of Toronto Mississauga.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Khan actively centres anti-oppressive, anti-racist, feminist and Indigenous perspectives in higher education and within student life. As an immigrant woman of colour, she is passionate about challenging the status quo and working with an anti-oppressive and equitable framework to create accessible pathways to post-secondary education for historically marginalized and underrepresented communities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Her presentation takes place from 1 to 3 p.m. in Room 207 of Brock\u2019s International Centre.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2018\/02\/speaker-series-to-focus-on-diversity-inclusion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Equity in Post-Secondary Speakers Series<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> runs throughout March and features guest lecturers who inspire solutions to prioritize inclusion on university campuses.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">All events are free and open to the public.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Other speaking engagements include:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Stephanie Morningstar \u2014 <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/events\/425158937913532\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bridging Western and Indigenous Knowledges: Culturally Safe Ethnobotany<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.
