{"id":49422,"date":"2018-02-21T13:47:16","date_gmt":"2018-02-21T18:47:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=49422"},"modified":"2018-02-21T16:17:23","modified_gmt":"2018-02-21T21:17:23","slug":"senate-election-process-to-begin-feb-26","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2018\/02\/senate-election-process-to-begin-feb-26\/","title":{"rendered":"Senate election process to begin Feb. 26"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The process for the election of full-time teaching staff and professional librarians to Brock\u2019s 2018-19 Senate will begin Monday, Feb. 26.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Any member of the full-time teaching staff and any professional librarian is eligible to serve on Senate provided they are not on a leave of three months or longer during the academic year. Senate meets regularly from September to May.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In accordance with the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Brock University Act <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and the Senate Bylaws set out in the Faculty Handbook, any member of the full-time teaching staff and any professional librarian is eligible to vote in the Senate election, whether they are on leave or not at the time of the election. The definition of full-time teaching staff includes all teaching faculty members: tenure-track, probationary, limited term, department chairs, associate deans, research associates and assistants, and post-doctoral appointees, as well as any employee engaged full time in the work of teaching or research.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The electorate list will be distributed Feb. 26 and nominations will open at that time. \u00a0Nomination forms signed by at least four persons eligible to vote in the election will be due to the Secretary of Senate in the Office of the University Secretariat by <\/span><strong>Monday, March 12 at\u00a04:30 p.m<\/strong><b>. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Candidates are encouraged to submit a candidate statement of a maximum of 200 words with their nomination.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Electronic voting will begin <\/span><strong>Monday, March 19\u00a0at\u00a0<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>8:30 a.m. <\/strong>and will close at <\/span><strong>Monday, March 26 at 4:30 p.m<\/strong><b>.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The full election timeline, including the deadline for nomination papers to be received by the University Secretariat, will be set out on the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/university-secretariat\/about-the-senate\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Senate website<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on Feb. 26. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">All eligible members are encouraged to consider service on Senate.
