But how competitive will legal cannabis retailing be\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/canada\/toronto\/joint-ventures-black-market-1.4528840\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">against established black markets<\/a>?\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>That\u2019s a key question for federal and provincial politicians.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/politics\/liberal-marijuana-pardon-legal-1.4484496\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Governments don\u2019t like<\/a>\u00a0pot consumers funding organized crime.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>That question may also interest investors. They\u2019ve pushed up\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bnn.ca\/marijuana\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">cannabis stock prices<\/a>\u00a0and created demand for\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theglobeandmail.com\/globe-investor\/funds-and-etfs\/etfs\/fourth-canadian-marijuana-etf-to-begin-trading-next-week\/article37927503\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">four cannabis exchange-traded funds<\/a>.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/business.financialpost.com\/commodities\/agriculture\/u-s-tobacco-seller-buys-majority-stakes-in-pei-and-ontario-cannabis-companies-in-what-may-be-first-for-industry\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Alcohol and tobacco companies<\/a>\u00a0have bought stakes in cannabis growers. Suppliers of hydroponic equipment and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/canada\/ottawa\/ontario-shopify-marijuana-online-shopping-1.4531228\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">online retailing software<\/a>\u00a0could benefit too.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>To answer the question, consider the \u201cfour Ps\u201d that marketers work with in every industry. Those are the\u00a0product\u00a0characteristics,\u00a0price\u00a0charged,\u00a0place\u00a0where sold and\u00a0promotion\u00a0activity. From this viewpoint, legal vendors have some potential advantages.
