{"id":49300,"date":"2018-02-12T11:46:14","date_gmt":"2018-02-12T16:46:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=49300"},"modified":"2018-02-12T11:49:08","modified_gmt":"2018-02-12T16:49:08","slug":"beach-rats-to-be-screened-at-brock-film-series","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2018\/02\/beach-rats-to-be-screened-at-brock-film-series\/","title":{"rendered":"Beach Rats to be screened at Brock Film Series"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Brock University Film Series continues this week with <em>Beach Rats<\/em>, the second feature film by Eliza Hittman.<\/p>\n<p><i>Beach Rats,<\/i> being shown Wednesday, Feb. 14,\u00a0it is an edgy, dreamy portrait of aimless youths and aimless love on the shore of Brooklyn \u2014 in this case, Coney Island. The film has won acclaim at Sundance and numerous other film festivals, praised in part for a lyrical visual style reminiscent of the work of Claire Denis, but it&#8217;s <i>Beach Rats<\/i>\u2019 star, the newcomer Harris Dickinson, whose performance has been singled out for the most attention. Reviewer Wendy Ide, of <i>The Guardian,<\/i> wrote,\u00a0\u201cthere\u2019s a wounded beauty to his performance. He captures the kind of tortured inarticulacy that speaks volumes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For more than 40 years, the Department of Communication, Popular Culture and Film has hosted Brock\u2019s film series to bring some of the best in international, independent and Canadian cinema to St. Catharines. Films, all selected from the TIFF circuit, screen most Wednesdays until April 4 at the Pen Centre\u2019s Landmark Cinemas.<\/p>\n<p>Tickets for each screening are $10 for adults and $5 for Brock students and can be purchased in the lobby of Landmark Cinemas each Wednesday night. Season tickets are also available.
