{"id":49064,"date":"2018-01-26T14:37:10","date_gmt":"2018-01-26T19:37:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=49064"},"modified":"2018-07-16T15:42:48","modified_gmt":"2018-07-16T19:42:48","slug":"two-new-exhibits-to-open-at-rodman-hall","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2018\/01\/two-new-exhibits-to-open-at-rodman-hall\/","title":{"rendered":"Two new exhibits to open at Rodman Hall"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The works of nine Indigenous artists will be featured in one of two new exhibits opening at Rodman Hall Art Centre on Saturday, Jan. 27.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Curated by Alexandra Kahsenni:io Nehwegahbow, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Always Vessels<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> features nine contemporary Anishinaabek and Haudenosaunee artists who express their art through a range of media, from beads to photography.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Using a blend of traditional and modern approaches, the artists explore the processes of learning, making and analyzing how knowledge is transferred and made. The work, informed by contemporary translation of traditional knowledge, offers insight into the range of skills, techniques and knowledge unique to Anishinaabek and Haudenosaunee cultures.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The exhibit explores how belongings and possessions are meaningful objects that have the ability to carry, hold and transmit memory across time and space.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nahwegahbow will speak about the exhibit Saturday at 2:30 p.m. as part of Rodman\u2019s Hot Talk series.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Also opening on Saturday is <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Up close and in motion<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, an exhibit from Rodman\u2019s permanent collection of nearly 1,000 works dating back three centuries.
