{"id":48840,"date":"2018-01-15T10:25:44","date_gmt":"2018-01-15T15:25:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=48840"},"modified":"2018-01-15T11:06:24","modified_gmt":"2018-01-15T16:06:24","slug":"brock-university-film-series-to-begin-with-french-comedy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2018\/01\/brock-university-film-series-to-begin-with-french-comedy\/","title":{"rendered":"Brock University Film Series to begin with French comedy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The French film <\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">C\u2019est La Vie<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> kicks off the 2018 Brock University Film Series on Wednesday, Jan. 17.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The English-subtitled version of the French comedy <\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Le Sens de la f\u00eate<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A Sense of Occasion<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>)<\/em>, <\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">C\u2019est La Vie<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is a 2017 film by Olivier Nakache and \u00c9ric Toledano that tells the story of a wedding being staged in a 17th-century ch\u00e2teau on the outskirts of Paris.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s up to Max, a long-suffering wedding planner, to make sure the event is a hit \u2014 against all odds \u2014 on what is to be his final engagement. The arrangements are overblown and ridiculous, the technological limitations are considerable, the staff are incompetent, the wedding singer is a male prima donna, the groom is a tireless micro-manager, and Max\u2019s partner has chosen this occasion to wage open rebellion.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>C\u2019est La Vie, <\/em>a hit at the Toronto International Film Festival, was a highlight of TIFF&#8217;s closing night gala.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For more than 40 years, the Department of Communication, Popular Culture and Film has hosted Brock&#8217;s film series to bring some of the best in international, independent and Canadian cinema to St. Catharines. Films, all selected from the TIFF circuit, screen most\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Wednesdays until April 4 at the Pen Centre\u2019s Landmark Cinemas.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tickets for each screening are $10 for adults and $5 for Brock students and can be purchased in the lobby of Landmark Cinemas each Wednesday night. Season tickets are also available.
