{"id":48772,"date":"2018-01-10T08:44:50","date_gmt":"2018-01-10T13:44:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=48772"},"modified":"2018-01-10T16:36:34","modified_gmt":"2018-01-10T21:36:34","slug":"preventing-slips-trips-and-falls-this-winter","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2018\/01\/preventing-slips-trips-and-falls-this-winter\/","title":{"rendered":"Preventing slips, trips and falls this winter"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With Winter Term now in session, Health, Safety and Wellness (HSW) is reminding the Brock community to be mindful of snow and ice on walking areas and in parking lots.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Although the University proactively clears walkways and parking lots as part of grounds maintenance, the risk of slipping, tripping and falling can increase during the winter season, particularly during storms when snow accumulation is significant.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">HSW is sharing the following reminders:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Don\u2019t rush or travel too quickly for the walking surface conditions.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pay attention to your surroundings while walking.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Don\u2019t take shortcuts through non-pedestrian\/non-designated areas, such as snow banks or unclear paths.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Be sure to wear appropriate footwear for the conditions outdoors.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Carrying large objects can obstruct your vision and limit your ability to brace yourself in a fall.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you encounter slippery conditions on outdoor walking surfaces, report slip and trip circumstances:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Notify your supervisor of slip and trip circumstances you encounter.
