{"id":47975,"date":"2017-11-21T14:26:34","date_gmt":"2017-11-21T19:26:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=47975"},"modified":"2017-11-21T16:30:51","modified_gmt":"2017-11-21T21:30:51","slug":"goodman-prof-receives-highest-accounting-honour","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2017\/11\/goodman-prof-receives-highest-accounting-honour\/","title":{"rendered":"Goodman prof receives highest accounting honour"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Council of the Chartered Professional Accountants of Ontario (CPA Ontario) has granted the highest honour in the accounting profession to Goodman School of Business Associate Professor <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pascale Lapointe-Antunes<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lapointe-Antunes <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">has<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cpaontario.ca\/newsroom\/cpa-ontario-awards-prestigious-fellow-designation-to-69-professional-accountants\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">earned the title of Fellow and the FCPA designation<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to put behind her name, which formally recognizes her as an outstanding CPA member who has demonstrated excellence in her career and contributions to the field of accounting.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cBecoming a Fellow is the profession\u2019s highest mark of distinction, but this is not just about awarding a prestigious designation,\u201d said Carol Wilding, President and CEO of CPA Ontario.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cEach Fellow embodies the unique value proposition offered by professional accountants \u2014 navigating an ever-changing business environment, while holding the designation\u2019s high standards of professional excellence and integrity,\u201d she said. \u201cThey are demonstrated leaders who have made significant contributions to their communities and advanced the profession. They truly reflect the immense diversity and range of skills required by today\u2019s CPAs.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lapointe-Antunes obtained the Chartered Accountant (CA) designation in 1999 after ranking first in Quebec and ninth in Canada on the qualifying exam.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Before joining Brock\u2019s Goodman School of Business in 2005, she worked as an auditor at PricewaterhouseCoopers and obtained a PhD in accounting from Concordia University. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI really did like public practice and I probably would have enjoyed a career in assurance and eventually becoming a partner in audit, but I was approached by Universit\u00e9 Laval to teach, and once I tried it, it was clear that this was going to be my path,\u201d she said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A highly-respected and dedicated instructor, Lapointe-Antunes has mentored hundreds of CPA candidates in Goodman\u2019s Master of Accountancy program to help them on their way to becoming professional accountants.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cTeaching got integrated into who I am and it\u2019s just part of me. It\u2019s not that it\u2019s my job, it\u2019s not that it\u2019s work, it\u2019s just part of what I do. Knowing that I make a difference to students is so rewarding,\u201d she said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cFor me, this distinction is the most important recognition I can get for what I do.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lapointe-Antunes has been actively involved with several professional accounting bodies in different capacities over the past 18 years.
