{"id":47908,"date":"2017-11-16T16:22:27","date_gmt":"2017-11-16T21:22:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=47908"},"modified":"2017-11-17T11:54:40","modified_gmt":"2017-11-17T16:54:40","slug":"goodman-students-to-host-national-accounting-conference","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2017\/11\/goodman-students-to-host-national-accounting-conference\/","title":{"rendered":"Goodman students to host national accounting conference"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For Medha Verma and Urvil Mehta, a semester\u2019s worth of hard work all adds up to this coming weekend.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The two fifth-year accounting co-op students are co-chairing the annual Brock University Accounting Conference (BUAC), which is set to draw attendees from across Canada to campus Nov. 17 to 19.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sponsored by Chartered Professional Accountants of Ontario, the conference includes career development opportunities for accounting students and a case competition where students will analyze an accounting case before presenting their analysis and recommendations to the judges.<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_47909\" style=\"width: 421px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-47909\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-47909 \" src=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Goodman-accounting-conference-1050x761.jpg\" alt=\"Goodman accounting conference student organizers\" width=\"411\" height=\"298\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-47909\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Fifth-year accounting students Medha Verma and Urvil Mehta, seated, are leading their team to host the Brock University Accounting Conference this weekend.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The competition helps students to hone their problem-solving, teamwork and presentation skills. Verma and Mehta have worked to perfect those skills themselves over their five years of involvement with the conference.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Armed with both co-op and case competition experience, they know the level of planning involved in making this large-scale conference tick.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWe\u2019ve seen the conference grow from 13 teams up to 19, and we\u2019ve seen it happen at different venues and in different formats. We\u2019re looking forward to making this year\u2019s event the best one yet,\u201d Mehta said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI have so much passion for this conference.
