Three professors from Brock University\u2019s Goodman School of Business are collaborating with York University\u2019s School of Administrative Studies to host the Ontario Universities Accounting and Finance Symposium.<\/p>\n
The Nov. 22 to 23 conference is chaired by Goodman Professor of Accounting Samir Trabelsi, who is joined by Professor of Finance Mohamed Ayadi, Associate Professor of Finance Skander Lazrak and colleagues at York University on the organizing committee.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe event\u2019s objective is to promote thought leadership to bridge a gap between accounting and finance research, and education and business practices,\u201d says Trabelsi.<\/p>\n
In its fourth year, the event is being held at the Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel and has attracted leading industry experts in accounting and finance and world-class academics from universities in the U.S. and Ontario.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s no secret that accounting is a very important strength the Goodman School of Business offers and has offered for many years,\u201d said Goodman School of Business Dean Andrew Gaudes. \u201cThis collaborative effort with York lends itself further to the strength of the accounting program that we have here, as well as the faculty that present their research in the sessions.\u201d<\/p>\n
The symposium will consist of two panel discussions and research presentations.<\/p>\n
The first panel will discuss risk management and features: Professor Rashad Abdel-Khalik, University of Illinois Urbana Champaign; Dimitry Khmelnitsky,\u00a0Veritas Investment Research; Ken Kivenko,\u00a0Kenmar Associates; and Richard Leblanc,\u00a0York University.<\/p>\n
The second panel\u2019s discussion will focus on innovation and features: Thomas Chemmanur, Boston College; Karen Jones, Accounting Standards Board Canada; Arvind Kamath, Scotiabank; and Bharat Sarath, Rutgers School of Business.<\/p>\n
Research presentations include: Jeff Callen,\u00a0University of Toronto; Sean Cleary,\u00a0Queen\u2019s University; Yun Ke,\u00a0Brock University; Ken Klassen,\u00a0University of Waterloo; Onem Ozocak, Brock University; Gary Spraakman,\u00a0York University; Nabil Tahani,\u00a0York University; and Yan Wang,\u00a0McMaster University.<\/p>\n
