{"id":47805,"date":"2017-11-10T10:17:25","date_gmt":"2017-11-10T15:17:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=47805"},"modified":"2017-11-10T10:17:25","modified_gmt":"2017-11-10T15:17:25","slug":"musicnoon-to-get-electrified","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2017\/11\/musicnoon-to-get-electrified\/","title":{"rendered":"Music@Noon to get electrified"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A current of excitement is expected to run through the crowd at the FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre Tuesday.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Nov. 14 instalment of the RBC Foundation Music@Noon Recital Series will feature a performance by Brock\u2019s Devon Fornelli, a percussion instructor, and Gregory Betts, an associate professor in Canadian Modernism and Avant-garde Canadian Poetry, joined by local musician Joe Lapinski.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Taking place at noon in the Cairns Recital Hall, the concert, presented by the Department of Music, will feature Fornelli on the marimba, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a deep-toned xylophone, Lapinski on electric guitar and Betts as the narrator.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fornelli has extensive experience as a soloist, orchestral percussionist and chamber instrumentalist, and in September performed an<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0outdoor<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/miwsfpa\/music\/2017\/09\/22\/percussion-improv-at-the-miwsfpa\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">percussion improv show<\/span><\/a>\u00a0<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in celebration of Culture Days. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lapinski is an interdisciplinary artist who has been performing, writing and producing music in St. Catharines for the past 18 years, while\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Betts focus lies on the representation of revolution, insurrection, dislocation and linguistic error in Canadian literature.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For more information on upcoming Music@Noon performances, visit the Marilyn I.
