{"id":47770,"date":"2017-11-08T15:32:27","date_gmt":"2017-11-08T20:32:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=47770"},"modified":"2017-11-08T15:32:27","modified_gmt":"2017-11-08T20:32:27","slug":"brock-prof-says-cannabis-branding-key-factor-in-building-customer-trust-and-product-quality","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2017\/11\/brock-prof-says-cannabis-branding-key-factor-in-building-customer-trust-and-product-quality\/","title":{"rendered":"Brock prof says cannabis branding key factor in building customer trust and product quality"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>How cannabis is allowed to be marketed and branded in Canada is going to be an important conversation in the coming months, says Brock University Associate Professor Michael Armstrong.<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday, a coalition of licensed Canadian cannabis producers released \u201c<em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.newswire.ca\/news-releases\/canadas-leading-licensed-producers-release-recommendations-for-responsible-cannabis-branding--marketing-guidelines-656072743.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Recommendations for Responsible Cannabis Branding and Marketing Guidelines<\/a>,<\/em>\u201d where they urged the government to set looser guidelines than planned for advertising marijuana.<\/p>\n<p>Armstrong, who teaches courses in quality improvement in Brock\u2019s Goodman School of Business and has written opinion columns on this subject, says branding will play an important role in developing knowledge for customers of legal cannabis.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDesigning quality cannabis products involves many dimensions,\u201d he said. \u201cBecause of these complexities, product branding will be important for providing consumers with good quality experiences.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRecognizable brands help consumers find the best product for their needs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Further to that, Armstrong says branding also \u201chelps build trust.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s one advantage legal cannabis could have over illegal. Consumers won\u2019t need to risk unpredictable results buying on the street,\u201d he said. \u201cConversely, without branding, producers have little incentive to pursue excellence.
