{"id":4700,"date":"2010-08-31T09:34:56","date_gmt":"2010-08-31T13:34:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=4700"},"modified":"2025-02-28T11:03:25","modified_gmt":"2025-02-28T16:03:25","slug":"o-week-coming-to-brock","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2010\/08\/o-week-coming-to-brock\/","title":{"rendered":"O-Week coming to Brock"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4699\" title=\"O-Week photo\" src=\"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/oweekphoto.jpg\" alt=\"O-Week photo\" width=\"540\" height=\"304\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This September, Brock will welcome more than 17,000 new and returning students to campus for the beginning of the 2010-11 school year.<\/p>\n<p>Throughout O-Week, taking place Monday, Sept. 6 to Sunday, Sept. 12, there will be plenty of opportunities for students to soak up the Brock experience, both on and off campus.<\/p>\n<p>O-Week is &#8220;definitely a Brock tradition,&#8221; said Vince Wilson, manager of student conduct with the Student Development Centre.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s a flagship event to welcome students to Brock University.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The following are just some of the events planned for 2010 O-Week at Brock:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Residence move-in blitz<\/strong> (Monday, Sept. 6, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.): Six hours, 2,400 students and their families, and more than 100 volunteers. In its traditional one-day residence move-in blitz, Brock will welcome thousands of students to its six residence complexes.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Live Burn<\/strong> (Monday, Sept. 6, 8 to 8:30 p.m. D parking lot): Controlled \u201clive burn\u201d of mock rooms designed and furnished to resemble a typical student\u2019s room. The demo provides students with a real-time illustration of how quickly fire can spread.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Vendor and Club Fair<\/strong> (Tuesday, Sept. 7 and Wednesday, Sept. 8, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., in front of Schmon Tower): Two days of activities, live music and giveaways featuring student clubs, local businesses and services available at Brock and in St. Catharines.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Hush-Hush party<\/strong>: (Tuesday Sept. 7, 7 p.m., Weather Station Field): The newest addition to the O-Week line up. Interactive games, celebrity guest appearances, a New Years trip giveaway and a dance party so silent you could hear a pin drop. Come out to hear what everyone is whispering about.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Academic Orientation<\/strong> (Wednesday, Sept. 8, various sessions, 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.): A chance for students to meet professors and classmates in their faculties and majors. (For more information, click <a href=\"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/calendar-events\/13049\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>.)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Concert<\/strong> (Wednesday, Sept. 9, 8 to 11 p.m., Weather Station Field) Back-to-school show for Brock students featuring Alexisonfire.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Shineday 2010<\/strong> (Saturday, Sept. 11, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.): Brock students join other students from across Canada to raise money for Cystic Fibrosis research. An opportunity for students to volunteer around Niagara and help raise money for a notable cause.
