{"id":46619,"date":"2017-09-13T15:37:03","date_gmt":"2017-09-13T19:37:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=46619"},"modified":"2018-07-17T13:37:25","modified_gmt":"2018-07-17T17:37:25","slug":"distinguished-grads-to-be-honoured-at-alumni-reception","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2017\/09\/distinguished-grads-to-be-honoured-at-alumni-reception\/","title":{"rendered":"Distinguished grads to be honoured at alumni reception"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"page-intro\"><b><\/b><span class=\"dropcap\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tim Siemens (BA \u201990) knows the importance of not only providing seniors the care they deserve, but also recognizing the role they once played as the farmers, teachers and hard-working members of society that helped to shape the next generation.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After almost two decades as an administrator for Pleasant Manor and Tabor Manor care facilities, the Brock alumnus still speaks passionately about working with seniors in the community.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Siemens\u2019 outstanding leadership in the health-care field, as well as his commitment to his alma mater, has earned him the inaugural Brock University Alumni Association Community Engagement Award.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cIt is an absolute honour to receive this award from the Alumni Association as my education from Brock University built a strong foundation for my academic career and helped shape who I am today,\u201d Siemens said after learning the news.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He began studying sociology at Brock in 1986, pursuing his interest in aging and the study of gerontology. With Canada\u2019s aging population of baby boomers on track to create a \u2018Silver Tsunami,\u2019 Siemens wanted to ensure proper care was in place for the country\u2019s oldest residents.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cIt was always my goal to create an enriching presence and culture for each individual \u2014 resident, employee, volunteer and community member \u2014 that walks through the doors of the homes I manage through the rich programming we offer,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recognized as a leader in his field locally, provincially and nationally, Siemens\u2019 approach to care for seniors is leading edge and the homes that he operates have been recognized for their best practices.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He has also demonstrated his commitment to Brock University through regular speaking engagements in the Faculty of Applied Health Sciences and mentorship opportunities for students looking for career guidance in his field.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Siemens is proud to employ many Brock graduates as nurses, personal support workers and therapeutic recreationists.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Brock University Alumni Association will present Siemens with the Alumni Community Engagement Award on Saturday, Sept. 16 during the Alumni Recognition Reception held as part of Homecoming weekend.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He will be joined by several other outstanding alumni also being recognized for their achievements and ongoing connection to Brock.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Siemens is a proud second-generation Brock graduate. His father, Rudy, was part of Brock\u2019s first-ever graduating class in 1967 \u2014 a group that is celebrating its golden anniversary this weekend.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During the reception, members of the Class of \u201967 will each be presented with a gold cameo pin featuring the silhouette of University namesake, Maj.-Gen.
