{"id":46448,"date":"2017-08-31T14:12:25","date_gmt":"2017-08-31T18:12:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=46448"},"modified":"2017-08-31T14:12:25","modified_gmt":"2017-08-31T18:12:25","slug":"professional-development-day-puts-tas-in-spotlight","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2017\/08\/professional-development-day-puts-tas-in-spotlight\/","title":{"rendered":"Professional development day puts TAs in spotlight"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In her more than 10 years as a Brock teaching assistant, Christina Quintiliani has come to understand she learns just as much from her students as they do from her.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The doctoral student in Educational Studies describes being a TA as a big part of a lifelong learning process that has enriched her academic experience both personally and professionally.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cOne of the most rewarding aspects of being a TA is the reciprocal nature of the learning that takes place in the classroom,\u201d she said. \u201cNot only do you receive the opportunity to contribute to your students&#8217; learning and observe their progress throughout the semester, but you also have the privilege of learning from and with your students.\u201d \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Quintiliani will be a panel member at the closing plenary for Brock\u2019s annual TA Day, held on <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Saturday, Sept. 9 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Pond Inlet.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">She and other seasoned TAs will offer stories about their teaching experiences and how serving as a TA has impacted their academic journeys. The plenary will wrap up a full day of TA professional development workshops and information sessions presented by the Centre for Pedagogical Innovation (CPI).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">All Brock teaching assistants are invited to participate. Visit the CPI website for more information and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/cpi.brocku.ca\/events\/node\/1085\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">to register by Tuesday, Sept. 5<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.
