Brock University Chancellor Shirley Cheechoo and Board of Trustees Chair Gary Comerford extended their greetings this week to Gervan Fearon, who was in his first week as Brock\u2019s new President and Vice-Chancellor.<\/p>\n
\u201c<\/span>Whatcha!,\u201d Cheechoo, who is of Cree heritage, wrote in an open note to the President. \u201cIt is my honour to welcome to Brock University President Dr. Gervan Fearon and his family.<\/p>\n \u201cYou have worked hard to be here, you have sacrificed a lot to be here and you fought for your health to be here, and I want to say how proud I am to be part of your journey at Brock University. We have a long ladder to climb to indigenizing, and to clear the path for all individuals regardless of race to achieve their goals, and I believe your leadership at Brock will be extraordinary and nurturing to many such programs.<\/p>\n \u201c<\/span>It is very nice to have someone with your academic and cultural pedigree join the Brock family.\u00a0 Congratulations!\u201d<\/p>\n Comerford, who was elected Board Chair in June, also headed up the committee that oversaw Brock\u2019s presidential search last winter and spring.<\/p>\n \u201cDr. Fearon is a tremendous addition to the Brock family,\u201d said Comerford.<\/p>\n \u201cOn behalf of the Board, we are all extremely pleased to have such an experienced and perceptive leader in this important role at the University.
