{"id":45968,"date":"2017-07-24T15:40:20","date_gmt":"2017-07-24T19:40:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=45968"},"modified":"2017-08-29T16:06:55","modified_gmt":"2017-08-29T20:06:55","slug":"drive-to-succeed-nets-goodman-student-business-award","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2017\/07\/drive-to-succeed-nets-goodman-student-business-award\/","title":{"rendered":"Drive to succeed nets Goodman student business award"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"page-intro dropcap\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Diana Chan wears many hats as a student, part-time employee, volunteer and entrepreneur.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The impressive balancing act recently earned the business dual degree student at Brock\u2019s Goodman School of Business<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0the Jane M. Klausman Women in Business Scholarship. The award was presented on July 14\u00a0by the St. Catharines chapter of Zonta International \u2014 an organization of professionals whose goal is to empower women through their mandate of service and advocacy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The scholarship was established to inspire women in their pursuit of education and careers in business.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Virginia Vickers, a Zonta member who was part of the award selection panel, said Chan and her many endeavours made quite the impression on the group.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cHer leadership skills are very strong and even more interesting to us was her ability to work collaboratively and her genuine interest in helping her team members succeed,\u201d she said. \u201cHer ability to go above and beyond and relate to others was absolutely tremendous.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Vickers said the panel was also impressed with Chan\u2019s ability to juggle her many responsibilities as a student, part-time employee, volunteer and entrepreneur.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>In addition to participating in Goodman&#8217;s unique BBA dual degree program, which will allow her\u00a0to study in Ireland for two years\u00a0at Dublin City University before graduating with two undergraduate degrees in 4.5 years, Chan spends much time pursuing her passion for digital content.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Niagara Falls native has logged countless hours over the last two years volunteering for the Brock University Accounting Conference as an IT design director, the Goodman Business Students\u2019 Association as a photographer and the Goodman School of Business as a social media ambassador.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">She is also working at the Healthcare and Employees&#8217; Credit Union in Hamilton this summer.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chan&#8217;s\u00a0interests also lie in more traditional mediums.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">She\u00a0launched a journal and book binding company called Bounded last year using start-up funding and mentorship from the Summer Company grant.
