The piece was written in conjunction with\u00a0professors Don Klinger, of Queen&#8217;s University in Kingston, Melissa Siegel, of\u00a0Maastricht University, and\u00a0Ozge Bilgili, of\u00a0Utrecht University, both in the Netherlands.<\/p>\n<p>Volante and his co-authors write:<\/p>\n<p><em>Immigrants and refugees, especially those from developing nations, are often portrayed by segments of the media and policy makers as an economic burden, a threat to our social cohesion and \u201cour way of life.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>However, immigrants and immigrant youth can help build nations like Canada. They are a great source of economic potential, while also contributing to a rich cultural mosaic.
