It\u2019s an event meant to get the community\u2019s wheels turning \u2014 in more ways than one.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Canadian Mental Health Association of Niagara\u2019s third annual Ride Don\u2019t Hide event is set to take place Sunday, June 25 at Brock University.<\/span><\/p>\n

Brock is putting together a team for the cycling event and staff, faculty and students are being encouraged to sign up and support the worthy cause.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe event is a great way for the Brock University community to support a local organization doing great work,\u201d said Kristen Nilsen, a Brock career consultant who is also helping to organize the fundraising ride.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cBrock has a strong influence in the community and can play a huge role in helping CMHA Niagara raise awareness and help break the stigma surrounding mental health while raising essential funds for mental health programs.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Ride participants help CMHA Niagara to challenge the stigma surrounding mental health that so often discourages people from seeking the help they need, Nilsen said.<\/span><\/p>\n

The event, which takes place in cities across Canada, is meant to show the public that it\u2019s OK to talk about mental health, she said.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt’s also an opportunity to raise essential funds that help support local mental health programs and services so that we can serve more individuals in need in our community.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Cyclists will begin their ride between 9:30 a.m. and 10, depending on whether they\u2019ve selected the five-, 15- or 35-kilometre route option.<\/span><\/p>\n

The day, which is open to people of all ages and abilities, will include live music, food and other entertainment.<\/span><\/p>\n

Brock\u2019s team has set a fundraising goal of $1,000.<\/span><\/p>\n
