{"id":45221,"date":"2017-06-08T14:28:59","date_gmt":"2017-06-08T18:28:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=45221"},"modified":"2017-06-08T16:58:34","modified_gmt":"2017-06-08T20:58:34","slug":"convocation-emcee-does-double-duty-as-graduate","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2017\/06\/convocation-emcee-does-double-duty-as-graduate\/","title":{"rendered":"Convocation emcee does double duty as graduate"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">She\u2019s usually working behind the scenes to help ensure Convocation goes off without a hitch, but Thursday, Diana Panter had her moment in the spotlight.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Brock\u2019s Assistant to the Registrar, who also works as ceremony co-ordinator during Convocation season, formally welcomed the crowd to the Goodman School of Business celebration before jetting off stage to the gowning room, where she transformed from event emcee to proud graduate.<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_45197\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-45197\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-45197\" src=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/Diana-Panter-1-RS-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Diana Panter\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-45197\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Diana Panter, Convocation ceremony co-ordinator, welcomes the crowd to the Goodman School of Business ceremony on Thursday.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After grabbing her Master\u2019s of Business Administration hood, and with her family cheering her on from the audience, Panter snuck into her place in line with her fellow graduands before crossing the stage with a big smile.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is the third degree for Panter, who earned an\u00a0undergraduate degree in 2011 and her first master\u2019s degree in 2013.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When she initially informed her family about her third convocation, she played it off as \u201cno big deal.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cBut as soon as you get on the stage, there\u2019s just that feeling of elation,\u201d she said. \u201cIt feels so amazing to recognize the accomplishment. You don\u2019t realize how important it is until you\u2019re in the moment.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Panter has been helping with Convocation at Brock for the past eight years, working behind the scenes to assist with gowns, the printing of degrees and ensuring everything is in order for the ceremonies.<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_45236\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/PanterHood.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-45236\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-45236 size-seenandheard\" src=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/PanterHood-300x214.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"214\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-45236\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Diana Panter exchanges her emcee hood for her master&#8217;s hood.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In addition to emceeing the events this week, Panter has been handing out degrees as graduates finish their walk across the stage.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThey had to find somebody else to do that today so I could get my diploma,\u201d she said with a laugh Thursday. \u201cI\u2019ll be back at it for the afternoon ceremony.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Panter admitted her nerves were a little heightened knowing she was \u201cdoing double duty\u201d at the morning event, but seeing her family in attendance had a relaxing effect.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cMy family has been incredibly supportive of me,\u201d she said. \u201cI don\u2019t think I would have any of my degrees without their support.
