This is the second major award for teaching excellence he has received from Brock this year. He also received the Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching at Spring Convocation. He will receive the distinguished teaching award at Fall Convocation.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_4476\" style=\"width: 188px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4476\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-4476 \" title=\"Mary-Beth Raddon\" src=\"\/brock-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/marybethraddonheadshot.jpg\" alt=\"Mary-Beth Raddon\" width=\"178\" height=\"178\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-4476\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Mary-Beth Raddon<\/p><\/div>\n<p>This award, presented annually to a Brock faculty member, recognizes instructors who have made remarkable contributions to creative teaching, student learning, curriculum development and the mentoring of colleagues.<\/p>\n<p>Faught has a long-standing record of teaching excellence and curriculum innovation in courses that range from large first-year courses in health policy to fourth-year courses in epidemiology. In addition to teaching courses on exercise physiology, anatomy and epidemiology, he has also developed courses in areas such as health sciences information technology and clinical health assessments.<\/p>\n<p>During his 18 years at Brock, Faught has explored new models of seminar delivery and evaluation, adopted new teaching technologies, and mentored many undergraduate and graduate students. He helped develop an intensive two-week <a href=\"\/brock-news\/?p=2815\">Supercourse<\/a> based on a compressed course delivery model. This inventive approach provided students with greater flexibility in balancing their work-life and degree-completion aspirations.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_4477\" style=\"width: 144px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4477\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-4477 \" title=\"Maureen Connelly\" src=\"\/brock-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/connelly.jpg\" alt=\"Maureen Connelly\" width=\"134\" height=\"177\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-4477\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Maureen Connelly<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Outside the classroom, Faught is involved in developing collaborative agreements with various colleges. He also initiated the university\u2019s Firefighter Screening Services \u2014 a community outreach program designed to assess the physical and psychological ability of firefighter candidates in terms of health- and job-specific performance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn my twenty-year career at Brock, I have met very few faculty members who possess the energy, enthusiasm and genuine dedication to teaching excellence that Brent has,\u201d says Anna Lathrop, Associate Dean, Undergraduate Studies, Faculty of Applied Health Sciences. \u201cHe is always eager to rise to a challenge, and loves nothing more than to imagine how to teach differently and more effectively.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Brock University Chancellor\u2019s Chairs for Excellence in Teaching Awards:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Chancellor\u2019s Chairs for Teaching Excellence program was created in 2005 to support Brock\u2019s commitment to teaching, learning and educational technology.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_4478\" style=\"width: 170px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4478\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-4478  \" title=\"Gail Frost\" src=\"\/brock-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/gailfrost-248x300.jpg\" alt=\"Gail Frost\" width=\"160\" height=\"194\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-4478\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Gail Frost<\/p><\/div>\n<p>These awards are designed to provide successful candidates with the opportunity to undertake a specific three-year program of research and practice leading to a significant development in teaching, learning or educational technology. Recipients receive an annual support grant of $5,000 in each of the three years.<\/p>\n<p>The 2010-2013 Chancellor\u2019s Chairs for Teaching Excellence award recipients are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Mary-Beth Raddon<\/strong>, associate professor, Sociology<br \/>\nProject title: \u201cEvaluation of Foundations in Service Learning\u201d<br \/>\nThe evaluation of a new pilot course in <a href=\"\/brock-news\/?p=4422\">Service Learning<\/a> \u2013 combined classroom and community-based learning \u2013 offers an opportunity to evaluate the educational value of this initiative. The evaluation of this course will include a critical contextual analysis of the course and its philosophies, documentation of the course design and implementation, qualitative assessment of students\u2019 learning outcomes, and a quantitative analysis of the impact of the course on student engagement.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Maureen Connolly<\/strong>, professor, and <strong>Gail Frost<\/strong>, associate professor, Physical Education and Kinesiology (shared award)<br \/>\nProject title: \u201cReal People\/Deep Learning\u201d<br \/>\nLearners need chances to practice the skills they will need in their professional lives. This project will develop educational experiences rooted in problem-based and service-based learning that allow students to work with real people within the framework of course assignments. The project will track, analyze and reflect upon students\u2019 engagements with their \u201cclients\u201d in order to provide evidence and advice in developing these teaching methods and supporting others\u2019 interest in them.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_4479\" style=\"width: 181px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4479\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-4479  \" title=\"Don Cyr\" src=\"\/brock-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/doncyrheadshot-297x300.jpg\" alt=\"Don Cyr\" width=\"171\" height=\"173\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-4479\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Don Cyr<\/p><\/div><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Don Cyr<\/strong>, associate professor, Finance, Operations and Information Systems<br \/>\nProject title: \u201cUsing VSC (video screen capture)\u201d<br \/>\nThis projects aims to test the benefits of using video screen capture (VSC) modules for instructing mathematically-based material, particularly in finance education.
