{"id":44797,"date":"2017-05-15T16:23:53","date_gmt":"2017-05-15T20:23:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=44797"},"modified":"2017-05-15T16:23:53","modified_gmt":"2017-05-15T20:23:53","slug":"brock-its-conducting-ransomware-update-across-campus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2017\/05\/brock-its-conducting-ransomware-update-across-campus\/","title":{"rendered":"Brock ITS conducting ransomware update across campus"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Brock University ITS began sending a critical security update to Windows 7\/8 computers across campus on Monday, May 15, forcing those computers to restart within one minute.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The restart process may take several minutes. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This action is in response to ransomware attacks that started on Friday, May 12, when criminal hackers caused a global epidemic by releasing a new strain of ransomware.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Anyone who opens any of these phishing email attachments will not only infect their own computer, but others across campus.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Be very careful when you get an email with an attachment you did not ask for.
