<\/b>Brock\u2019s Goodman School of Business has received another award to add to its trophy case.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Goodman\u2019s <\/span>Beta Gamma Sigma<\/span><\/a> chapter topped more than 570 others to earn the Silver Outstanding Chapter of the Year award for its efforts in engaging students on campus.<\/span><\/p>\n

The award was presented to Interim Dean Barry Wright at the International Conference and Annual Meeting hosted by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB International) in Houston, Texas, April 23.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThis award is certainly an honour for us to receive and speaks to our students\u2019 academic excellence and professionalism,\u201d Wright said.<\/span><\/p>\n

Beta Gamma Sigma is an international honours society for select business schools accredited by AACSB, of which Goodman has been accredited since 2002.<\/span><\/p>\n

The letters for Beta Gamma Sigma stand for honour, wisdom and earnestness, values that Wright said Goodman students embody throughout their academic career.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cBGS members are often referred to as the \u2018best in business\u2019 and we are proud of our faculty, students and alumni who achieve this standard while exhibiting these values,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n

One of a handful of Canadian universities with a chapter in the prestigious honours society, Goodman invites students who are in the top 10 per cent of their undergraduate class or top 20 per cent of their graduate class to join twice per year in a ceremony held in conjunction with Convocation. Members receive a gold pin that signifies their membership.<\/span><\/p>\n

Membership in the society is described as the highest recognition a business student anywhere in the world can achieve.<\/span><\/p>\n

The chapter award is given for a combination of campus impact, student advancement and outreach, all of which Goodman has placed greater emphasis on in recent years.<\/span><\/p>\n

Run by Accreditations and Quality Assurance Manager Michelle Leece and Accreditations Co-ordinator Alyssa Freeman, the chapter inducts an honouree at each ceremony, which in 2016 included Shannon Passero, Owner of Shannon Passero Design, and Jason Sparaga, Co-founder and Co-CEO of Spark Power Corp. and Founder of Spara Capital Partners.<\/span><\/p>\n

Beginning last year, students were given the opportunity to mentor first-year students and participate in the BGS Gives Back Day of Service in support of the Arthritis Society.<\/span><\/p>\n

Goodman has also hosted an annual Goodman Scholars reception since 2014 to further recognize academic excellence for students who received either the Goodman Scholarship or Beta Gamma Sigma membership. The most recent event included a\u00a0<\/span>keynote speech by Victor Rocca (BBA \u201993)<\/span><\/a>, Regional Vice-President, Ontario, at McDonald\u2019s Canada.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Goodman School of Business sends students to the Beta Gamma Sigma Global Leadership Summit each year for leadership development and networking opportunities. Upon graduating, Goodman members can join the Toronto-area alumni chapter.<\/span><\/p>\n
