We are specifically looking for Brock graduates residing in Niagara and the GTA who are willing to mentor senior students locally or from a distance.

Who are mentors?
Mentors can be Brock Graduates, faculty, staff or community members with a connection or affinity to Brock. What these individuals have in common is their willingness to share their experiences and offer advice and guidance to Brock students.

What kind of information do mentors provide?
Mentors can provide personal insight, knowledge and life experiences surrounding both academic, personal, and professional successes and challenges in your field, occupation or industry.

How can I mentor from a distance?
You don’t need to live in the Niagara Region to be a mentor. Through the use of technology (e-mail, Skype, MSN, Facebook, telephone etc.) you can share your experiences with your mentee, set goals and answer questions they may have. Our new mentorship software will provide you with tools, such as discussion boards, to help facilitate distance mentoring relationships. In September/October our team will be facilitating mentor training sessions in Niagara and the GTA to equip you with the tools to be an effective mentor.

How long does the mentoring relationship last?
Career Mentoring begins in October and the mentoring relationship is expected to last until April. Mentors are asked to commit two to four hours per month.

Why would I want a mentor?
Students may be confused or unsure about academic and/or career plans and want someone to talk to. Students may also want help with skill development such as resume writing, stress management techniques, and interview skills. Sharing specific knowledge, experiences, abilities or skills with others can make a positive difference in someone’s life.

How do I get involved?
This year we will be selecting 150 alumni to serve as mentors in the program. If you can devote two to four hours a month to interact with your mentee we welcome your application to participate.

The first step to getting involved with Mentorship Plus is to register in our database. mentormatch.brocku.ca You will need your Brock username to apply.
