When Amanda Mackenzie (BSM \u201916) completed her studies at Brock University, she hurried hard towards her next opportunity.<\/p>\n
It was the time management and organizational skills she developed as a student that helped the Brock alumna to land a job working with Curling Canada on the 2017 Scotties Tournament of Hearts.<\/p>\n
The Canadian women\u2019s curling championship event, for which the University is a proud Silver Sponsor, is set to hit the ice at the Meridian Centre in downtown St. Catharines from Feb. 18 to 26.<\/p>\n
Through her role with Curling Canada, Mackenzie is working from the organization\u2019s St. Catharines office to help plan the national event.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis position at the Scotties tournament seems like a great place to start my career,\u201d she said, while acknowledging it was her time at Brock the helped get her on her current path.<\/p>\n
As a varsity athlete for the Brock Badgers women\u2019s curling team, Mackenzie worked hard to balance her academic and athletic responsibilities.<\/p>\n
Hoping to get the most out of the University experience, she made sure to get involved on campus, explore internship opportunities and network with classmates, alumni and faculty \u2014 all while maintaining her on-ice schedule.<\/p>\n
It was that combined experience, she said, that ultimately helped her to set career priorities and plan for the future.<\/p>\n
As the Scotties tournament nears, volunteers are still being sought to fill the event\u2019s mascot and handler roles, and to provide general assistance.<\/p>\n
